The national project for 2016 coordinated by Integrate with the British Rhinological Society was a large scale review of epistaxis management. The project aims to produce a new set of guidelines for the management of epistaxis through three complementary components: a national audit of management, a series of systematic reviews and a consensus opinion of experts.
A national prospective audit
The national prospective audit was be carried out by trainees in over 100 hospitals throughout the UK. Data collection for the projects is now complete and it is being analysed and written up for publication and dissemination of findings.
Six systematic reviews
ENT trainees from around the UK have been working together in pairs supported by Integrate to produce a series of systematic reviews in topics related to epistaxis. The reviews were presented at a national consensus meeting and will be submitted for publication in peer reviewed journals.
A consensus of experts
A consensus panel was held in Leeds in May 2016. At the event presentations were made to summarise each literature reviews and recommendations on the optimal managment of epistaxis were discussed by a panel of experts from mutliple specialties.
